Our Birth Story

Friday, November 10th – 9:30 p.m.
It was the night before our due date. We were relaxing in bed watching tv. I was sitting up with my eyes closed when all of a sudden I felt a warm little gush and immediately opened my eyes. I felt it once more and gasped realizing what it was. Zarin jumped up, eyes wide open, thinking I had seen a ghost. I told him I thought my water broke and waddled over to the bathroom where I realized that’s exactly what happened. The best I can explain it is like a warm bubble popping and water running out. That’s when things got real! We called our OB to let them know my water broke. I couldn’t feel any contractions and I wasn’t in pain so they told us to get to the hospital within 1-2 hours. We took our time getting our things together stopping every few minutes to freak out in excitement. On our way to the hospital we stopped to grab some snacks and finally checked in around 10:30 p.m. We got checked in and monitored. I was only at 2 cm so we decided to walk around the hospital to try to get things going. By that time it was almost midnight so the hospital was empty and we had the halls to ourselves. After 2 walking trips and a few hours later, I was only at 3 cm and we decided to go with pitocin since I still hadn’t been feeling any contractions and my water had already broke. Well, about an hour later I started feeling them. They were pretty mild at first, similar to period cramps, but intensified quick. They tell you it hurts and it’s true, those bitches hurt! I lasted for about 2 hours breathing through the contractions, my husband at my side through every single one. I finally got the epidural around 11 a.m. and praise God it was good! I was able to finally relax and enjoy the rest of my labor. The first check after my epidural I was at 7 cm and we patiently waited a few more hours to see how I progressed. Finally, our delivering OB came in to see how I was progressing and determined right away that I was at 10 cm! Baby time!!! After that, everything moved so quickly. Our nurses started prepping the room and before I knew it she was explaining how the delivery would go. I asked for a mirror so I could see what was happening. They wheeled one in and everyone took their spots. Zarin stood next to me holding one leg while my nurse held the other and it was time to push. I had my eyes closed through my first push and heard my husband gasp. He said he could see her head! I looked and saw a head full of dark hair! Three more pushes and our baby entered the world. Hearing her cry and feeling her on my chest was more than I could have ever imagined. I cried the whole time as she reached her hands out to me and I kissed every single finger. We did it and she’s perfect. We are SO in love! We have been soaking up every little feeding, eye stare, smirk and even every poopy diaper. Baby, mommy, and daddy are all doing great and living on cloud 9. My husband and I would like to thank you all for all the love and support through this journey. As our pregnancy journey ends, our journey as parents to this amazing blessing begins. We love you sweet Zadie Rose.

38 Week Update (‘cuz we don’t know if we’ll make it to 40!)

20171028_11143834 week update here.
28 week update here.
20 week update here.
14 week update here.

We are nearing the end. The end of a pregnancy I have loved and have been blessed with. I’ll miss my belly. I’ll miss feeling her kick. I’ll miss my husband’s hand resting on my belly throughout the night. But I know what is to come will be 100000000x better.

This week we’re also sharing some more photos from our maternity shoot. I was 36 weeks when we took our photos. I’m so happy we have them to remember this pregnancy and share with our baby girl when she gets older.  We actually took them at what was supposed to be our wedding venue. The venue we never got to use because we got rained out. But now, we have these beautiful photos in this beautiful space from another beautiful time in our lives. Thank you to our amazing photographer, Corey Hour! Enjoy!

Hello Third Trimester – 28 Week Update!

Hello third trimester! We are nearing the end, guys! Time just continues to fly by, especially now that we are seeing our OB every 2 weeks  opposed to every 4 weeks. Baby girl’s kicks are getting stronger and more frequent and we are all getting super excited to meet her. I have an update on our last 8 weeks below but I thought I’d share a little more this time. Entering into my third trimester has us feeling so blessed and lucky. I can honestly say I have enjoyed being pregnant, even through the rough first trimester. But having a baby was not easy for Zarin and I. I’d like to share the story below. My husband shared it with me a little while ago and I thought it was a beautiful way to look at a difficult situation.

An elephant and a dog became pregnant at same time. Three months down the line the dog gave birth to six puppies. Six months later the dog was pregnant again, and nine months on it gave birth to another dozen puppies. The pattern continued. On the eighteenth month the dog approached the elephant questioning, “Are you sure that you are pregnant? We became pregnant on the same date, I have given birth three times to a dozen puppies and they are now grown to become big dogs, yet you are still pregnant. Whats going on?”. The elephant replied, “There is something I want you to understand. What I am carrying is not a puppy but an elephant. I only give birth to one in two years. When my baby hits the ground, the earth feels it. When my baby crosses the road, human beings stop and watch in admiration, what I carry draws attention. So what I’m carrying is mighty and great”. Don’t lose faith when you see others receive answers to their prayers. Don’t be envious of others testimony. If you haven’t received your own blessings, don’t despair. Say to yourself, “My time is coming, and when it hits the surface of the earth, people shall yield in admiration.”

Baby Sells! 20 Week Update

14 week update here.

Half way!!! A lot has changed from week 14 to now. The biggest thing being I actually feel and look pregnant. Around week 19, I started feeling bigger and stretched out. I feel like my stomach had doubled in size overnight, too! Zarin took the photo above this morning and my mouth dropped at how huge my stomach looks! Lol! I’ve also had people at work take notice to the bump so there’s been a lot more belly rubbing going on. Everyday, though, I’m still in awe with the beautiful life that’s growing inside me and the changes my body is going through to help her grow. Pregnancy is a crazy beautiful thing, yall!
