Our Birth Story

Friday, November 10th – 9:30 p.m.
It was the night before our due date. We were relaxing in bed watching tv. I was sitting up with my eyes closed when all of a sudden I felt a warm little gush and immediately opened my eyes. I felt it once more and gasped realizing what it was. Zarin jumped up, eyes wide open, thinking I had seen a ghost. I told him I thought my water broke and waddled over to the bathroom where I realized that’s exactly what happened. The best I can explain it is like a warm bubble popping and water running out. That’s when things got real! We called our OB to let them know my water broke. I couldn’t feel any contractions and I wasn’t in pain so they told us to get to the hospital within 1-2 hours. We took our time getting our things together stopping every few minutes to freak out in excitement. On our way to the hospital we stopped to grab some snacks and finally checked in around 10:30 p.m. We got checked in and monitored. I was only at 2 cm so we decided to walk around the hospital to try to get things going. By that time it was almost midnight so the hospital was empty and we had the halls to ourselves. After 2 walking trips and a few hours later, I was only at 3 cm and we decided to go with pitocin since I still hadn’t been feeling any contractions and my water had already broke. Well, about an hour later I started feeling them. They were pretty mild at first, similar to period cramps, but intensified quick. They tell you it hurts and it’s true, those bitches hurt! I lasted for about 2 hours breathing through the contractions, my husband at my side through every single one. I finally got the epidural around 11 a.m. and praise God it was good! I was able to finally relax and enjoy the rest of my labor. The first check after my epidural I was at 7 cm and we patiently waited a few more hours to see how I progressed. Finally, our delivering OB came in to see how I was progressing and determined right away that I was at 10 cm! Baby time!!! After that, everything moved so quickly. Our nurses started prepping the room and before I knew it she was explaining how the delivery would go. I asked for a mirror so I could see what was happening. They wheeled one in and everyone took their spots. Zarin stood next to me holding one leg while my nurse held the other and it was time to push. I had my eyes closed through my first push and heard my husband gasp. He said he could see her head! I looked and saw a head full of dark hair! Three more pushes and our baby entered the world. Hearing her cry and feeling her on my chest was more than I could have ever imagined. I cried the whole time as she reached her hands out to me and I kissed every single finger. We did it and she’s perfect. We are SO in love! We have been soaking up every little feeding, eye stare, smirk and even every poopy diaper. Baby, mommy, and daddy are all doing great and living on cloud 9. My husband and I would like to thank you all for all the love and support through this journey. As our pregnancy journey ends, our journey as parents to this amazing blessing begins. We love you sweet Zadie Rose.
